Offensive Lineman Training

The keys to being a great offensive lineman — footwork, leverage, hand placement, power, discipline, and football intelligence.

Fundamentals

More than size

Being a great offensive lineman takes more than size and strength. The best offensive linemen combine footwork, leverage, hand placement, balance, power, discipline, and football intelligence to control the line of scrimmage and protect their teammates.

These are the fundamentals Rodrick Walker teaches and develops when you train with him. His training is designed to help offensive linemen build proper technique, improve their movement and strength, and understand how to consistently win at the line of scrimmage.

The keys

What separates good from great

Stance & Get-Off

Every play starts with a great stance. Offensive linemen must be balanced, powerful, and ready to move immediately at the snap without giving away the play.

Footwork

Great offensive line play starts with great feet. Linemen must learn proper first steps, maintain a strong base, move laterally, change direction, and stay balanced while engaging defenders.

Hand Placement

Winning inside hand position can determine who controls the block. Linemen must develop quick, accurate hands and understand how to establish and maintain proper hand placement.

Leverage

Low man wins. Great offensive linemen understand pad level, body positioning, and how to use leverage to move defenders who may be bigger or stronger.

Run Blocking

Effective run blocking requires explosion, leverage, footwork, and finishing. Linemen must understand how to create movement at the line of scrimmage and open running lanes.

Pass Protection

Protecting the quarterback requires patience and discipline. Linemen must develop proper sets, maintain balance, control their hands, and react to different pass-rush techniques.

Balance & Body Control

A lineman who loses his balance loses his power. Maintaining a strong base and proper body position allows him to absorb contact, redirect defenders, and stay in control.

Power & Explosion

Great linemen generate power from the ground up. Developing explosive hips, legs, and hands allows them to create movement without sacrificing technique.

Understanding Defensive Fronts

Complete offensive linemen understand what they're seeing before the snap. Recognizing alignments, gaps, blitzes, stunts, and responsibilities allows them to play faster and make better decisions.

Communication

The offensive line operates as a unit. Great linemen communicate before the snap, understand assignments, recognize defensive movement, and work together to protect the quarterback and create running lanes.

Finish the Block

Great offensive linemen play through the whistle. They maintain leverage, keep their feet moving, stay engaged, and finish every block with discipline and control.
